If you drive multiple vehicles for work, three things happen on every busy day โ and any one of them can blow up your Schedule C at tax time.
Real estate showings in the truck, listing meetings in the sedan. The app defaults to whichever car you last picked โ and now half your trips are on the wrong vehicle.
Multi-car household. Both phones briefly see both Bluetooth devices when you leave the garage at the same time. Old trackers silently guess. Usually wrong.
Mixing miles between vehicles creates a recordkeeping inconsistency the IRS specifically watches for. At 72.5ยข/mile, 5,000 misallocated miles is a $3,625 swing on Schedule C.
Your phone is already paired to your car's stereo. TrakMiles Pro uses that signal to identify the vehicle โ and handles the messy edge cases so you don't have to.
Open the Vehicle screen, tap Bluetooth Auto-Detect, pick your car's stereo from your phone's paired devices. Done. Every future trip with that Bluetooth connected auto-tags to that vehicle.
Forgot to set it up? After a few trips where you've assigned the same vehicle while connected to the same Bluetooth device, TrakMiles offers to auto-tag future trips. One-tap confirm. Done.
Bought a new car? Borrowed a rental? When a Bluetooth device you don't have a fingerprint for connects, a one-tap prompt asks which vehicle. Skip if you want โ the trip still records.
You and your spouse leaving at the same time? When two confirmed vehicles are connected simultaneously, you get a "Which one are you driving?" prompt before you even start moving. Tap to pick. The next trip uses your choice.
Bluetooth MAC addresses are SHA-256 hashed the instant we read them. Raw values are discarded. Only the hash is stored, locally on your phone, never synced. Disable anytime to clear it all.
Don't want Auto-Detect? Toggle it off in Settings. The app reverts to your default vehicle for every trip. Saved fingerprints are preserved โ toggle back on later and everything resumes.
Your Bluetooth MAC address never leaves your phone. We compute a one-way SHA-256 hash the moment a device connects, then discard the raw value. The hash is a stable fingerprint โ it tells your app "this is the same device I saw before" but reveals nothing about the original.
The fingerprint table is local to your phone. Not cloud-synced. Not sold. Not shared. Turn off Auto-Detect from Settings and the table clears.
One-time setup per vehicle. Then forget it exists.
Make sure TrakMiles Pro is on version 3.6 or later. The Play Store will prompt you.
Start the car, let the Bluetooth handshake complete. Most people have this already done.
In TrakMiles, tap the Mileage tab โ โฎ menu โ Vehicles โ tap your vehicle.
Grant the Bluetooth permission, then tap "Add Bluetooth Device" and pick your stereo from the paired list.
If you drive multiple cars, do the same for each. The app handles the rest from there.
Next time you start driving with that Bluetooth connected, the trip auto-tags to that vehicle. Set and forget.
No. If your car has Bluetooth โ which means virtually any vehicle made since 2010 โ Auto-Detect works. You just need to pair your phone to the stereo, which most drivers have already done.
No measurable impact. We hook into Android's existing Bluetooth connect/disconnect events. No continuous scanning, no extra background services. The receiver wakes briefly only when a device connects or disconnects.
The first time your phone connects to an unfamiliar Bluetooth device, you get a one-tap prompt to pick which vehicle the trip is for โ or skip it. Either way, the trip still records.
Yes. Open Settings inside TrakMiles Pro and toggle "Auto-detect vehicle from Bluetooth" off. The app reverts to using your default vehicle for every trip.
Auto-start uses GPS speed to begin recording a trip. Auto-Detect uses Bluetooth to figure out which vehicle the trip is for. They work together โ one says "trip is happening," the other says "this trip is in the truck."
TrakMiles Pro is the complete business tracker for self-employed professionals who drive for business โ mileage, time clock, revenue, expenses, P&L, and Schedule C in one app. Built for gig workers, contractors, real estate agents, and small business owners.
