Welcome to Settings & Configuration
TrakMiles Pro is built to work out of the box, but every gig worker's setup is different. Distance units, tracking mode, vehicles, dark mode, IRS rates, and your subscription — all configurable to match how you work. In this tutorial, you'll walk through 7 steps covering every setting and preference in the app so you can dial it in for your specific situation.
1
Find Your Settings
Settings are organized across two menus. On the Mileage tab, tap the ⋮ menu to find Settings (distance units, dark mode), Start Preference (tracking mode), My Vehicles, and IRS Mileage Rates. On the Dashboard, tap the ⋮ menu on the clock card for Backup & Restore, My Account, Help, and Support. Each setting lives where it's most relevant — but this tutorial covers them all.

2
Distance Units
In the Mileage tab, tap ⋮ → Settings. Under Distance Unit, choose Miles or Kilometers. Every distance in the app updates instantly — trip history, dashboard widgets, reports, and exports all reflect your choice. If you select Kilometers, a note reminds you that IRS tax deduction features are only available when using miles, since those are a US tax feature.

3
Dark Mode
In the same Settings screen, toggle Dark Mode on or off. Dark mode switches the entire app to darker colors — easier on your eyes when driving at night or working in low light. On phones with OLED screens, dark mode can also help save battery since dark pixels use less power. Every screen, dialog, and widget respects the dark mode setting.

Start Preference (Auto vs Manual)
In the Mileage tab, tap ⋮ → Start Preference — or just tap the "Auto" or "Manual" label on the real-time stats bar. Choose Auto Mode to let TrakMiles detect driving and start trips automatically — best for hands-free tracking. Choose Manual Mode to tap Start and Stop yourself for full control. In Auto mode, set the auto-stop threshold (1–10 minutes) — how long the app waits at a standstill before ending the trip. The default is 4 minutes, which avoids false stops at red lights.

Manage Your Vehicles
In the Mileage tab, tap ⋮ → My Vehicles. Tap the + button to add a vehicle — enter the year, make, model, and starting odometer reading. Tap any vehicle to edit its details. Set one as your default vehicle so new trips are automatically assigned to it. You can track multiple vehicles — each maintains its own odometer reading, and the IRS mileage deduction summary in reports shows per-vehicle breakdowns.

6
IRS Mileage Rates
In the Mileage tab, tap ⋮ → IRS Mileage Rates. View the current IRS standard mileage rate and historical rates by year. TrakMiles Pro uses these rates to calculate your business mileage deduction automatically — every business trip multiplied by the rate for that year. This feature only appears when using Miles (it's hidden for Kilometers users since it's a US tax feature).

My Account
On the Dashboard, tap the ⋮ menu on the clock card and select My Account. See your subscription status — active plan, trial days remaining, or expiration date. Manage your subscription to upgrade or change plans. View your Google account email. Sign out if you need to switch accounts. Your subscription unlocks unlimited tracking, all reports, and every export feature in the app.
